Religious Education
At Mather Street Primary School and Yew Tree Community School, our RE curriculum follows the guidance available in Oldham's Locally Agreed Syllabus. Our staff attend network meetings and conferences to ensure a deep understanding of the expectations of delivering a quality RE curriculum that meets the needs of our pupils and is relevant to where we live and the wider world.
Religious Education (RE) is a curriculum subject required under the Education Reform Acts 1988, 1996.
However, unlike subjects of the National Curriculum, RE is taught in accordance with the Oldham Locally Agreed Syllabus (Oldham SACRE).
The updated syllabus came into effect from September 2025.
Parents have the right to withdraw their child, either partially or completely, without needing to give a reason. If a child is withdrawn, the school must supervise them, but is not required to provide additional teaching or incur extra costs.
